Over the past decade, the United States has experienced rapid growth in demand for the production of renewable natural gas (RNG). The once niche segment has grown from a handful of operating facilities to over 300 today, with annual production approaching 90 billion cubic feet (88 TBtu). Still, there is room for growth in the prod-uction, implementation, and use of RNG in the United States. This paper explores existing and potential sources of renewable gas production in the U.S. and the policies, programs, and incen-tives driving the demand for RNG.
