John is an experienced energy professional with a proven track record of developing winning strategies and delivering results. He has led two of the largest competitive retail energy companies in the United States and has 27 years of practical experience in a variety of energy industry roles including; energy sales, natural gas and electric operations, energy trading, energy infrastructure development, retail energy M&A, strategy development and risk management.

Most recently, John was President of Direct Energy Business, one of the largest retail energy providers in North America with operations in 23 states and Canada. John started his career at Statoil Energy Services and spent 13 years at Hess Corporation in a variety of energy-related roles.

Mark has been helping commercial and industrial customers achieve their energy goals for over three decades. He is a seasoned energy executive with significant experience in the natural gas, electric, demand response, and sustainable energy markets. Always focused on delivering for his clients, he leverages his knowledge and experience to find the best solution to any challenge.

Mark was previously Vice President Sales at Direct Energy, where he led a team of over 100 sales and support professionals responsible for selling natural gas, electricity, and energy solutions to commercial and industrial customers throughout North America. Mark started his career at Hess Corporation and held numerous sales, marketing, and customer operations roles of increasing responsibility, eventually becoming Vice President of Sales and leading the Hess Energy Marketing sales organization.

Ryan brings over 15 years of experience in the energy industry, with a strong background in energy sales, procurement, and commodity risk management. Before joining RISE, he led business development efforts for NRG in the Mid-Atlantic region and held key roles at Direct Energy and Hess Corporation, where he supported commercial and industrial clients with customized energy strategies.

At RISE, Ryan focuses on guiding clients through the energy procurement process, managing price risk, and securing competitive energy supply contracts. He also plays a key role in expanding our supplier network and building strategic partnerships. Ryan holds an MBA from Villanova University with a concentration in Sustainability and Strategic Management.

Ellen is a highly skilled energy procurement and management professional with over two decades of experience in the energy industry. She has successfully managed energy procurement for a wide range of clients — from commercial and industrial to municipal entities — consistently delivering cost savings and exceptional service. Ellen also brings a strong financial background, having recovered over $3.3 million in gross receipts tax refunds for her clients.

Her previous roles include positions with KPMG Peat Marwick, Morgan Stanley, and 5/Luthin Associates. She is a Certified Energy Professional by the Association of Energy Engineers and currently supports RISE clients with energy procurement, utility tariff analysis, budgeting and planning, energy tax strategy, and commodity pricing.

Sydney is the newest member of the RISE team and a recent graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. in Biology. Sydney has also completed post-graduate course work in green construction, sustainable buildings, ESG and climate change. She is passionate about helping our clients make more sustainable energy choices.

Sydney is currently supporting our energy management clients and sales team, and helps manage our growing supplier network. She is also responsible for RISE’s marketing and social media presence.
